Work in progress survival horror game

Overview

The Mind at Large is a WIP project worked on as time in the evenings or over weekends allows. The player is exploring a Victorian mansion with their only reliable source of light a lantern they carry, which, when used, attracts enemies.

Originally made for the Coding for a Cause Game Jam under the name “Moth Mansion”.

Target features

  • Dynamic, quasi-3D lighting — see demo , lights react to walls, furniture etc.
  • Lovecraftian storyline influenced by analytical idealism — the name is a nod to Huxley’s concept of the mind at large, as also explored by Bernardo Kastrup
  • Light and sound as core gameplay features — sound and light are both your worst enemies and best friends
  • Circle-of-life enemy loop - residents of the mansion exist in a constant flow of consuming one another to procreate, letting the levels develop dynamically as you play

Tech

The entire project is written in Godot’s GDScript, and for now makes heavy use of bought store assets as placeholders.
